The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle
The well-preserved Castle, once the residence of the Empress Sissi of Austria, will lead you into the garden of senses… In the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle (see big picture above), plants from all over the world are gathered together and alpine, Mediterranean and tropical landscapes are presented. Paths meander uphill through water and terraced gardens, leading to the Sensual Garden or the Japanese Garden, to the cacti and succulents mound or to cultivated plants of the south, like the olive tree and the grapevine. Messner Mountain Museum
Since 2006 Firmiano Castle hosts the Mountain Museum of the worldwide known alpinist Reinhold Messner. Aim of the museum is to show the variety of relations between man and mountain. It is possible to admire precious sculptures of Buddha and huge prayers wheels. A grotto is devoted to the legends of the Dolomites and a separated area presents the history of alpinism and tourism and their influence on nature and environment.
The Museum of Agriculture in Völlan
The interesting Museum has been inaugurated in 1977 and shows tools and objects used in everyday life by peasants and farmers of the past.
The Fruit Farming Museum in Lana
One tenth of the apples grown in the Europe come from South Tyrol and one per cent of these come from the village of Lana, which has a long tradition of apple growing. The Fruit Growing Museum in Lana, opened in 1990, documents the historical evolution and the actual situation of fruit growing in South Tyrol. The exhibition rooms in the "Apple Museum" cover an area of approximately 2000 sq m in the medieval residence "Larchgut" and offer not only informative but also entertaining encounters with an interesting area of our culture.
